Second generation climate ethics
Two eight three. Now second generation time. First generation climate ethics focused on whether there is a climate problem, what caused it, who is responsible, and how to apportion blame. Now second generation time. It focuses on the full extent of the problem as a problem for the adaptability of our form of life -our social and political systems, our values, our habits, our technology and economics- to a new world climate. It focuses on responsibility in its many forms and extents working this adaptation and restraining foregone climate change from the worst effects on the future. Retrospective blame game is out: are-you-doing-anything-now?! is in. Maybe-it's-not-happening is out; use-your-imagination abides.
