Earth thought 237 of 365 : I've felt uneasy of late about the disaster focus in environmentalism. It's understandable. How wishful I'd be if I denied my reality because it isn't "positive" enough when it really isn't "positive". And there are very severe things coming to the surface concerning our effect on the global environment. But perhaps I can put the dissatisfaction this way - an environmentalism worth its name is a way of life, an ethos. That keys it to human flourishing. Inside it, of course, yes, the bad is seen as bad, worried over, and our responsibility is summoned against it. But it gains its context and focus from the larger vision of goodness. I am not convinced we have this larger picture of goodness when it comes to worrying over environmental disasters. At least, I don't.
